General Information
What is RVVswipe?
RVVswipe is a smartphone-based sales system with automatic ex-post fare calculation. Using location data (GPS), the smartphone recognizes a check-in initiated by the customer at the start of the journey, the distance travelled on the RVV via local public transport and the check-out initiated by the customer at the end of the journey.
The system then uses this location data to calculate the correct fare for the route traveled (depending on the zones and number of passengers) in the background. If several journeys are made per day, a maximum fare applies. Depending on the number of journeys per day, the customer's previously created means of payment is debited.
Why was €10 reserved immediately after my check-in?
During the first check-in process of a day, RVVswipe (or our payment service provider LogPay) reserves an amount of €10 on the payment method you have deposited.
As soon as your journeys are completed, the system calculates the actual costs at the end of the billing period (= in the morning of the following day).
If this amount is less than €10, only the actual daily price will be debited.
If the amount is over €10, the reservation amount and the remainder will be debited.
Where can I use RVVswipe?
The scope of RVVswipe includes buses and regional trains (2nd class) in the entire RVV area.
Limited Validity:
If you start your journey in the districts of Amberg-Sulzbach, Cham, Kelheim, Neumarkt i.d.OPf., Schwandorf or Straubing, special fare rules apply:
- If the start and destination of your journey are within certain areas (= internal traffic), the RVV fare does not apply to such a route and you can therefore not use RVVswipe.
- You can see the relevant areas on our fare zone map: They are marked in red with “Binnenverkehr”.
- For the RVV fare to apply and for you to be able to use RVVswipe correctly, you must travel at least to the first stop in the RVV area outside the marked area.
- If your journey nevertheless took place within such a special area, you will be charged up to the first stop in the RVV area outside this area.
An example (see map section): You check in at the station in Seubersdorf in the RVV app and get on the train to Regensburg. In order to be charged correctly, you must travel at least as far as Mausheim. Assuming your destination is Parsberg (= domestic traffic in the district of Neumarkt i.d.OPf.), the RVV fare would not apply to your journey: If you were to check out in Parsberg, your journey would be charged to Mausheim. For a journey from Seubersdorf to Parsberg, buying a VGN ticket would be the right way to go.Bildnachweis: RVV

Can I take more people with me on RVVswipe?
Yes, you can take more people with you.
You can take a maximum of four additional adults and up to four children with you. The passengers must be specified before check-in. It is not possible to add people during an active journey.
The user logged into the app at check-in must always travel with the passenger. The passengers must be accompanied by the registered user until they leave the bus or train.
Can children use RVVswipe?
You must be at least 18 years old to register in the app.
Children and young people can be added as passengers (for details, see “Can I take other people with me on RVVswipe?”):
- Passengers under the age of 6 travel free of charge and do not need to be specified.
- Passengers from 6 to 14 years of age are considered “children”.
- Passengers aged 15 and over are considered “adults”.
What are the advantages of electronic fares and sales?
RVVswipe significantly simplifies access to the world of public transport.
There is no longer any need for in-depth knowledge of fare zones or complex decisions about short trips, single journeys or day passes. RVVswipe always calculates the best possible fare on a daily basis.
In addition, a paper ticket is no longer necessary, the ticket is just a “swipe” away on the smartphone.
Which general terms and conditions apply?
These general terms and conditions apply to the purchase and use of RVVswipe from Regensburger Verkehrsverbund GmbH. They supplement the General Conditions of Carriage, fare regulations and fares of the RVV tariff as amended from time to time.
Tariff
How is the price of a journey with RVVswipe calculated?
The fare for an RVVswipe journey is determined for the registered customer and all fellow travelers according to the logic of the short-distance fare, the single ticket digital and the children's fare for accompanying children, depending on the fare zones travelled through and the time between check-in and check-out.
Example 1: Short Distance
Regensburg main station → Bus route 3 → House of Bavarian History
⇒ Single ticket digital, short distance: €1.44
Example 2: With Change
Straubing train station → Train RB 17 → Regensburg main station
main station → Bus route 1 → Fish market
⇒ Single ticket digital, price level 7: € 11.97
Example 3: Other Passengers
The registered RVVswipe user is accompanied by a second adult and a 9-year-old child.
Weißenburgstraße Regensburg → Bus route 5 → Donaustauf Kriegerdenkmal
⇒ Single ticket digital, price level 2, 2 x adult and 1 x child: 2 x € 3.87 + € 2.07 = € 9.81
⇒ Daily price actually charged: Day ticket 2, price level 2: € 7.00
Is there a price cap?
The maximum fare for all journeys made on a calendar day is the fare of a day ticket
for all fare zones traveled to and through on Monday to Friday from 9.00 a.m. and on weekends and public holidays.
If additional journeys are made Monday to Friday before 9.00 a.m., a combination of the fares of a day ticket and these individual journeys may apply.
Example: Journey from Sinzing via Regensburg to Walhalla and back again
Sinzing station → RB 17 train → Regensburg main station
main station → bus route 5 → Donaustauf Walhallastr.
Donaustauf Walhallastr. → bus route 5 → Regensburg main station
main station → RB 17 train → Sinzing station
a) All journeys take place Monday - Friday after 9.00 a.m. or on weekends/holidays
⇒ Outward journey: single ticket digital, price level 3: € 4.68
⇒ Return journey: single ticket digital, price level 3: € 4.68
⇒ Daily price actually charged: day ticket 2, price level 2: € 7.00
b) The train journey from Sinzing to Regensburg takes place, for example, on a Thursday before 9 a.m.
⇒ Daily price actually charged: Single ticket digital, price level 2 (for train journey Sinzing - Regensburg) + day ticket 2, price level 2 (for other journeys): 3,87 € + 7,00 € = 10,87 €
Explanation: “Calendar day”
A journey made on a calendar day is any journey that was started and ended on a calendar day, as well as the last journey that was started on a calendar day and ended on the following calendar day. Journeys started and completed between midnight and 4.30 a.m. shall be attributed to the previous day if a maximum fare is reached on that day.
Register with RVVswipe
How do I register?
You can register in the app in the “Profile” menu. Details at: rvv.de/app.
If you already have a customer account for the app, you can use it to swipe and start riding right away.
Can I use my existing account in the app for RVVswipe?
Yes, you can also use RVVswipe with your account. Please log in as usual in the menu under “Profile” with your user name and password.
It may be necessary to update the RVV app so that the swipe function is available on your cell phone.
Check-In
How does check-in work in the app?
RVVswipe works on the principle of a check-in/check-out system in the RVV app.
Please remember to activate the location sharing of your cell phone so that the app automatically recognizes your starting stop. It is also helpful to allow notifications (e.g. for a forgotten check-out).
Before boarding the bus or train, open the RVV app. Briefly check that the correct starting stop has been recognized. If the correct location has not been recognized, you can change it manually. Swipe to the right to check in and start your journey.
If the check-in was successful, a valid ticket will be displayed immediately.
What happens if I don't check in before the journey?
You do not have a valid ticket if you do not check in successfully.
If it is not possible to check in with the app for technical reasons or you have forgotten to check in, you must purchase a ticket via another sales channel, e.g. via the ticket store in our app or at a ticket machine.
What happens if I have checked in by mistake?
After checking in, you can check out again within a few seconds. If the same stop is displayed as the start and destination and the time window is only a few seconds, no amount will be charged. You may see a journey with €0 on the invoice.
During the Journey
What do I have to consider during a ticket inspection?
During the journey, your valid RVVswipe ticket will be displayed in the menu item “Control”. Tap on the ticket to open it and present it to the ticket inspector.
Your valid ticket is also displayed under “My tickets” and “RVVswipe journeys” in the “Swipe/Tickets” menu item.
Does the RVV app have to remain open during the journey?
Our app must be running in the background during an active check-in, the setting “Always allow access to location data” must be activated.
However, you are welcome to use other apps during the journey. If the RVV app is completely closed during the journey (i.e. after check-in), the check-in will still remain active.
What should I bear in mind if I have to change trains or interrupt my journey?
If you have to change trains, you do not need to check out or check in again. You can remain checked in for the entire journey, even while changing trains.
If you continue your journey after an interruption, the rules for single tickets apply:
- Maximum travel time: 150 minutes (= 2 ½ hours)
- Changing in the destination direction: is possible as often as you like
- Return and round trips: are not permitted
What happens if I leave the network area during the journey?
Your ticket with RVVswipe is only valid within the network area. When you leave the RVV area, you are automatically checked out.
During the journey, the app uses the tracking function to detect that you are approaching the boundary of the RVV area. If you allow the app to send notifications, you will receive a corresponding warning.
Check-Out
How does check-out work?
After getting off the bus or train, you check out with a swipe to the left. Your destination stop is determined automatically.
After checking out, our app finishes determining your location and automatically calculates the fare.
You will receive a summary of the route you have traveled.
What do I do if I have checked out by mistake?
If you have checked out by mistake, you no longer have a valid ticket. Check yourself back in as quickly as possible with a swipe.
What happens if I forget to check out?
Our app recognizes when you have got off the bus or train without checking out.
If you allow the app to send notifications, you will receive a corresponding warning.
As soon as you are reminded by the app or realize yourself that you have overlooked the check-out, please check whether the destination stop specified is correct, correct the stop manually if necessary and carry out the check-out in the usual way.
If you notice any errors in the billing the next day, please contact RVV customer service.
Billing of Journeys
How can I pay for my tickets with RVVswipe?
When registering in the app, you can currently choose between credit card and PayPal. These two payment options are also available for using RVVswipe.
Google Pay and Apple Pay will be added later.
Where can I see my previous journeys and how much they cost?
In the RVV app, your journeys are listed under “RVVswipe / Tickets” → “RVVswipe journeys” sorted by date.
There you can see details of your journeys, your tickets and the daily prices.
For each day on which you have used RVVswipe, you will receive a statement of your journeys by e-mail the following day.
When are billing and debiting carried out?
Regardless of whether you make one or more journeys per day with RVVswipe, you will always be billed at the end of the day.
You will therefore only receive the receipt for your journey(s) by e-mail the following day. You can also view the invoice document in the RVV app in your journey history under “RVVswipe/Tickets” → “RVVswipe journeys”. Simply click on the last journey you made on the day in question (at the top of the list) and download the total invoice.
The daily price due will be debited from your stored payment method within three working days.
Are existing tickets in the app taken into account for billing?
RVV tickets that you have already purchased via the app (e.g. your credit on strips of a strip ticket) are not taken into account when billing RVVswipe.
What can I do if my journey is displayed incorrectly in the invoice?
Please remember that the system takes into account the best possible fare for all journeys for an entire day - including passengers. Therefore, for example, several single journeys can be combined into a Day Ticket 2 or, with a certain number of passengers, into a Day Ticket 5 (for up to 5 people).
Depending on the “achieved” ticket, the price differs from the sum of all individual journeys.
However, if you notice an error in the calculation, please contact RVV customer service (details at: www.rvv.de/kontakt).
Technical Information
Does the app require a continuous internet connection?
A working internet connection is always required for check-in, as only then can the digital ticket be created and transferred. A working internet connection is also required to change the stored data.
If the mobile phone connection is interrupted during the journey (i.e. after check-in) for technical reasons, you can continue your journey without an internet connection. Your digital ticket will remain valid for any ticket checks.
You will need a working internet connection again to check out.
Why does the tracking mode have to be set to high accuracy?
Due to the numerous mobility points in the RVV, some of which are close together, it is important for the check-in/check-out system to have a high level of location accuracy in order to be able to determine your journey as accurately as possible and ultimately bill it.
What location data is stored?
After you have activated location sharing, RVVswipe accesses the location data (GPS) and the motion sensors of your smartphone in order to be able to locate the current location, stops, transfers and destinations as well as the itinerary and journey length of our passengers. The location data is only recorded after check-in has been completed and continues until check-out has been completed.
The protection of your personal data is important to us. All information on data protection in relation to RVVswipe is published at rvv.de/datenschutz-swipe.
How is my location data used?
To calculate the correct fare, the location services (GPS) must remain activated in your smartphone (“Always allow access to location data”) and you must check in and out at the start and destination stops.
This journey data is stored separately from all other data. This data is only linked to personal data for contract and payment processing purposes. No movement profiles of passengers are created.
The protection of your personal data is important to us. All information on data protection in relation to RVVswipe is published at rvv.de/datenschutz-swipe.
Would you like to delete your account for the RVV app?
If you no longer need your account in the RVV app, please send us a short message using our contact form.
We will then delete your personal and financial data as well as all information on purchases made immediately.
